Not every beautiful landscape can be captured, and not every wonderful moment can be recorded. It’s not because the scenery itself isn’t beautiful enough, but because we lack the eyes to discover beauty and the skills of taking pictures. Today, I’d like to share some mobile phone portrait photography techniques with you to help you take more natural and vivid portrait photos.

Shooting against the wind makes the photo look more natural. When taking portrait photos, ask the model to face the wind. This can make the photo look more vivid and natural. Meanwhile, you can also use the wind to blow the model’s hair or clothes, adding a sense of movement and layering to the photo. For example, when shooting against the wind, the gentle breeze blows people’s hair and the plants beside them. On the mobile phone screen, click on the person’s head to focus. You can ask the model to look into the distance like in Figure 1, or call her name to make her look at the camera.
Don’t use dull colors for embellishment. When taking portrait photos, use colors to add visual impact and layering to the photo. For example, you can add some bright colors to the model’s clothes or props, or use the background color to echo the theme. the person being photographed is wearing a red scarf. In Figure 5, the person being photographed is wearing a red dress. Colors that are too dull won’t serve the purpose of embellishment. Appropriate bright colors can make the photo more contrastive and more attractive to look at.
Stretch the feet to the corner to make the legs look longer. When taking portrait photos, ask the model to stretch her feet to the corner of the frame. This can lengthen the model’s body proportion and make the legs look longer and more slender. Meanwhile, you can also use this technique to break the balance of the frame and make the photo more vivid. The person taking the photo with a mobile phone should also squat down a bit appropriately. The angle of shooting from bottom to top can also make the person being photographed look more slender. This is exactly how this mobile phone photography technique is used.
When taking portrait photos, choose a scene with a relatively uniform background color and texture. This can make the figure stand out more and also make the photo look neater. Otherwise, it will affect the overall aesthetic feeling. A uniform color in the photo makes it look less messy and less glaring.
When shooting outdoors, follow the lines. When shooting outdoors, try to follow the lines in the scene, such as roads, rivers, etc. This can add a sense of depth and three-dimensionality to the photo, making it look more vivid and natural.
When shooting in the grass, get closer. When shooting in the grass, you can try to get the lens closer to the grass and use the grass as the foreground to take pictures of people. This can add layering and visual impact to the photo, and also make the photo more characteristic and stylish.
To take beautiful portrait photos, not only do you need the eyes to discover beauty and good photography skills, but you also need to keep trying and practicing. I hope these techniques can help you become more proficient in taking portrait photos and take more natural, vivid and beautiful photos.
